STARTING POINT
Creating a car shopping experience from the ground up
Chase Auto focused on financing and account management, with no dedicated car shopping experience or distinct home for Chase Auto Preferred.
With limited UX direction and no clear branding for the program, my challenge was to define the shopping journey and establish a cohesive experience within the Chase brand.
RESEARCH
Defining the shopping experience
I reviewed Capital One, Carvana, and other sites to understand how they connected car shopping and financing. Four key patterns informed my direction:
Clear explanations of how the service works.
Vehicle search by make, model, and location.
Simple sign-up for prequalification.
Easy-to-find FAQs and support.
These insights helped define the foundation for Chase Auto Preferred’s shopping journey.
DESIGN SYSTEM EVOLUTION
Created a cohesive branded experience
I led the evolution of Chase’s design system elements for Auto Preferred, adapting typography, color, icons, and UI components to create a cohesive branded shopping experience.
This established a consistent visual foundation that gave the experience its own identity while staying connected to the Chase brand.
SOLUTION
Created a connected car shopping journey
I led the design of a dedicated Chase Auto Preferred experience, giving shoppers a clear path to search local inventory, explore vehicle details, and connect with a concierge.
Clear entry points and step-by-step guidance explained the service, while a cohesive branded experience connected the journey from discovery to inquiry.
Impact
Exceeded profit projections
The experience exceeded profit projections and became one of Chase Auto’s most-used features, generating revenue while simplifying the path to a car and loans.
From 4 states to nationwide
Initially launched in four states, Chase Auto Preferred expanded to all 50 states, helping more customers find cars and connect with financing.
